How to Market Yourself to Graduate Schools or Employers

This workshop will discuss how undergraduate students should represent themselves both online and in-person to enhance their chances of getting into graduate school or finding a job after graduation. The presenters will begin with some basic do’s and don’ts regarding what is and is not appropriate to post on your social media pages. Then, we will delve a little deeper into two specific technologies that can be especially helpful when applying the graduate school or applying for a job, LinkedIn and ePortfolios. Finally, we will discuss some tips for how to network with important stakeholders in your field both in-person and online. This will include identifying who makes up your network and how to cultivate relationships with these individuals. These skills are vitally important for students’ future success during college and after graduation, including identifying potential internship or practicum opportunities as well as individuals to serve as references or write letters of recommendation. We will end the presentation with an activity in which students will write and elevator pitch and then practice this pitch with other students attending the workshop.
