Classified Title Director of Professional Affairs - Kentucky Psychological Association
Classified Description The Kentucky Psychological Association is hiring a new Director of Professional Affairs (DPA) to start in January 2022. The DPA is a key member of KPA leadership who serves as a support for members on practice-related issues. This liaison role includes working with our licensing board, DPAs from other State and Provincial Psychology Associations, APA staff as practice resources, and KPA’s Legislative Advisory Team.

This is a part-time contract position with KPA and does not include benefits. Salary is negotiable with a range of $12,000-$13,500 per year depending on availability and experience.

The ideal DPA is a clinical psychologist who

  • Has familiarity with practice issues
  • Has strong written and oral communication skills
  • Would enjoy engaging with members to support and identify appropriate resources
  • Would enjoy connecting with psychologists across the country
  • Would enjoy representing and promoting psychology with multiple groups including the public, relevant government agencies, and multiple other professional venues

Time commitment

Average work time is 30 hrs/month. The hours worked are highly variable week to week depending on meetings, emails, etc.  The DPA reports to the Executive Director and will have at minimum a twice monthly one-hour meeting with the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

1) Attendance at all KPA Executive Committee (4 per year, Friday afternoons) and Board meetings (4 per year, Friday afternoons).

2) In coordination with the Executive Director, the DPA serves as a liaison from KPA to the Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology (KBEP) meetings.

3) The DPA is responsible for communication with members who submit practice consultation inquiries directly. Responding professionally and in a timely manner is expected.

4) The DPA is responsible for 4-5 newsletter submissions per year.

5) The DPA will participate in APA’s Practice Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. Usually in March: 5-6 days Thursday or Friday through Tuesday. This also includes the annual meeting of DPAs from other state associations.

6) Serve on the Legislative Committee. Active participation on bill watching and strategizing especially during Legislative sessions and participate in weekly committee phone calls with KPA lobbyist during the legislative session.

7) Present a workshop relevant to practice-related issues at the KPA Annual Convention and report out at the Annual Membership meeting.  (1st week of November, 3 days: Thursday-Friday-Saturday. Generally alternates year to year between Lexington and Louisville).

8) Additional evolving communication strategies such as podcasts and short webinars, coordinating member polls, leveraging APA resources, and participation in grant initiatives
