The Kentucky Psychological Association recognizes the increased distress many people are feeling in response to the banning of abortion in Kentucky and across the United States.  Psychological science makes clear that this decision will negatively impact the mental health of Kentuckians. We acknowledge, too, that the impact will not be even, and that poorer individuals and persons of color will experience more restricted healthcare services due to this decision, as barriers to reproductive healthcare are embedded in systems of oppression and discrimination

The fears emerging across this nation for the future of LGBTQIA+ rights and access to reproductive healthcare remain priorities as KPA develops upcoming advocacy efforts. KPA will continue to provide support for our members and our community as we face these challenges, and our advocacy for the health of Kentuckians continues every day. Please stay tuned for action alerts regarding ways to communicate with legislators in Frankfort and Washington, DC. If you want to become involved in advocacy and making your voice heard, please visit www.kpa.org for more information.

KPA acknowledges the deeply felt distress experienced by many can be overwhelming. If you need mental health support during this time, start your path to finding help here. KPA will offer an upcoming FREE town hall, “The Public Health Consequences of the Reversal of Roe vs. Wade: Psychology’s Response.” Please submit any specific questions you might have for this panel to [email protected]
