Classified Description DescriptionThe AgencyAmpersand Sexual Violence Resource Center of the Bluegrass (formerly known as Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center) supports individuals impacted by sexual violence in a 17-county service region through services including 24/7 emergency response, 1-on-1 therapy and counseling, legal and medical advocacy, group services, professional training, and community education. All services are provided free of cost in a safe and nurturing environment. The PositionAmpersand seeks a collaborative and strategic leader to serve as the Executive Director. This is an exceptional opportunity for an innovative, passionate person to lead the organization in its effort to support individuals impacted by sexual violence and prevent further violence from occurring. This position is charged with the overall functioning of the agency, including oversight of operations, education and outreach teams, direct services to survivors and their family and friends, program development, resource development, and community and professional outreach activities. The next Executive Director joins Ampersand at an important moment in its history and the ideal candidate will be a strategic and critical thinker who leads with a trauma-informed passionate purpose. This position will be responsible for: promoting effective collaboration between staff, the Board of Directors, funders, and community partners; cultivating staff leadership; creatively envisioning and pursuing resource development; and developing and sustaining high-quality and inclusive programs. The ideal candidate will have substantial management and leadership experience with a record of demonstrated leadership effectiveness, including evidence of promoting diversity and inclusion through their work. The Executive Director must hold a deep understanding of sexual violence through a social justice lens with a demonstrated commitment to sexual assault survivors. The RoleThe Executive Director is responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and operation of Ampersand Sexual Violence Resource Center to achieve excellence and impact through the consistent advancement of our mission, vision, and values. The ED is responsible for all organizational operations and activities. In accordance with all applicable requirements, the Executive Director has the authority to make independent decisions for the overall operation of the organization. Executive Director has the ability to hire, provide appraisals, and determine disciplinary actions for all personnel. Executive Director submits recommendations for policy revisions or additions to the Board of Directors for approval. Essential Functions Strategic Leadership & Planning: Work with BOD and staff to develop a shared vision for AmpersandBuild understanding around the mission, and develop appropriate goals and strategies to achieve our mission.

Board Relations:  Support effective operation and administration of BOD through communication and attendance of board meetings.Regular and timely updates on progress toward strategic goals; and serve as the liaison between board and staff. Engage BOD to be active in resource development opportunities. 10Communications & Public Relations: As the primary spokesperson and public face of Ampersand, promote the organization, advocate for the mission and work of the organization, and drive engagement of stakeholders critical to the success of the organization. 10 Administration: With overall responsibility of the organization’s operations, work with directors to develop, maintain, and use systems and resources that facilitate the effective operation of the organization toward the objectives of the strategic plan. Resource Development: Lead in fundraising and grant-writing activities, including expanding resource development through the cultivation of new funding prospects by writing grant proposals, designing and executing fundraising campaigns, and stewarding donors and key stakeholders. Direct the financial operations of the agency, ensuring the budgeting process achieves long-term sustainability. Expectations of ManagementUtilize trauma-informed management practices. Requirements Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. 5 years experience in relevant field. Desired Areas of Expertise and QualificationsTransparent and high integrity leadership. Demonstrated abilities in organizational managementExperience in the victim service field, particularly working with sexual assault survivors. Dedication to social justice and an understanding of the impact of systems of oppression on sexual violenceSolid, hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting. Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and facilitation. Ability to convey a vision of Ampersand’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, and donors. Program planning and evaluation skills. Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector. Strong grant writing skills. Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members. Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills. Ability to interface with and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups. Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
