Eastern State Hospital is a state-owned inpatient facility providing recovery-focused, individualized acute mental health care for adults. Managed by UK HealthCare, the hospital offers a therapeutic environment designed to support stabilization and long-term recovery. While continuously operated since 1824, the current facility opened in 2013. Eastern State Hospital serves adults age 18 and over with severe and persistent mental illness.

Role Description

The Staff Psychologist is a full-time, on-site role based in Lexington, KY. This position provides direct clinical services, including individual and group psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and treatment planning for adults with acute and persistent mental health needs. The role includes collaborating closely with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement person-centered, recovery-oriented care plans. The role may also involve providing consultation to staff, contributing to staff training, and supporting trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Psychology, including clinical theories, evidence-based interventions, and ethical practice.
• Proficiency in Psychological Assessment, including diagnostic evaluation, forensic evaluation, risk assessment, and treatment planning.
• Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited program.
• Eligible for or currently holding licensure as a Psychologist in the state of Kentucky (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe).
• Experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness in inpatient or similar settings preferred.
