Trauma-informed assessment is important when working with individuals of all ages, in any setting, and regardless of the referral question. While not all individuals will need trauma-focused services, missing those that do can lead to long-term negative consequences. This workshop will focus on understanding and identifying trauma-related symptoms in children and adolescents and provide brief overview of recommended assessment tools and interview questions. Tips for developing a trauma-informed case conceptualization will be provided. A brief overview of evidence-based treatments for youth who have experienced trauma will be provided. Identifying trauma-related symptoms early will help ensure the youth we are working with are provided with the treatments needed in order to support their healing process. Skill level: Beginning

- Describe four ways trauma impacts children and adolescents
- Select gold standard measures to assess PTSD in children and adolescents
- Describe symptom criteria of PTSD and complex trauma in children and adolescents
- Identify trauma-related interventions that have solid research support
About the Presenter
 Dr. Heather Risk has devoted her 25-year career to providing empirically-supported treatments to trauma survivors of all ages, primarily children and adolescents. She has trained thousands of professionals in trauma-informed assessment and treatment interventions and is an Approved TF-CBT Trainer. Prior to opening her practice, Dr. Risk received a Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Kentucky University, a Doctorate of Psychology from Xavier University, completed her internship at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, CAARE Center, worked in a variety of programs, and was the Project Director of a NCTSN site at the University of Kentucky.

This is a virtual event that will take place on Zoom - attendees will receive Zoom details in the days leading up to the event(s).
It is important to note that APA continuing education rules require that KPA only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop. An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credit. Partial credit may not be given.
